Hamsa of Infinite Life
Two revolution Infinity ring
Sterling silver pendant
2016
The Hamsa is one of the oldest symbols and sacred to many cultures. Its roots began in the Middle East and North Africa, and may be traced to ancient Mesopotamia and Carthage. For millennia, the open hand has especially been considered an amulet for protection.
The Hamsa may be found in Buddhism, where the sacred hand mudra symbolizes teaching and protection. In Judaism, the Hamsa is a mystical symbol found in Kabbalistic manuscripts. In modern Israel, the Hamsa has become part of secular traditions, and is considered a talisman of good fortune and a symbol of the State of Israel itself. In the 16th century, the Hamsa was sacred to Levantine Christians in the Middle East, who called it the "Hand of Mary” or the "Virgin's Hand.” The tradition of the Hamsa as the symbol of a sacred feminine hand is also reflected in the Islamic tradition ~ the hand of Fatima, the daughter of Mohammad, and in Judaism ~ the hand of Miriam, the sister of Moses.
The Hamsa of Infinite Life design contains three symbols: the Hamsa, the Tree of Life, and encircling both, an Infinity Ring. The three-fold symbolism within the design represents the blessings of spiritual growth, divine protection, and eternal life.
Like all of my Infinity Ring sculpture and jewelry designs, the Hamsa of Infinite Life evokes ancient Feng Shui principles. The never-ending circular nature of its Infinity Ring form promotes infinite peace, love, abundance, healing, and harmony.
